Q: What is SecurIX?
A: SecurIX is a Trusted Connectivity
software platform that solves the business problem of how to easily, quickly
and cost-effectively enable remote users to access internal business
applications through the Internet. SecurIX is
a turnkey, owner-managed solution that deploys in a fraction of the time
required to roll out conventional hardware based private networks and scales to
the needs of the largest distributed enterprises.
Q: What applications can be run remotely through SecurIX?
A: SecurIX allows you to
run any TCP/IP based application. Click-Into Inc. has been
working with customers and has tested many applications running under SecurIX
including: Telnet, FTP, SAP, Microsoft Outlook / Exchange, PLUS-VMS app via
telnet, VAX GUI app, Terminal server client, Reflection for IBM, Oracle
databases, SQL Server databases, Citrix, VNC, as well as custom client server
applications.
Q: How is SecurIX fundamentally different from traditional VPNs?
A: VPNs are point–to-point tunneling appliances used to provide
remote access for employees, and site-to-site connectivity. VPNs are designed
as a single point of entry into the entire LAN, and simply create an encrypted
tunnel between a remote user and the VPN appliance itself, without providing a
means for verifying whether that connection should be "trusted". In practice,
VPNs have many problems with respect to administration (they are very difficult
to configure and manage, require dedicated access lists, and bog down with
providing encryption services), security (PKI is an add-on, and clients are
susceptible to hackers), client software management (client software is
difficult to configure and is usually physically distributed), scalability (you
can't simply add another appliance as you add more users) and cost
(administration, additional security software, and help desk). SecurIX
solves many well-known architectural issues common to all VPNs including new
so-called "clientless" SSL VPNs. CLICK-Into Inc's introduction
of authentication gateways, peer-to-peer tunnels, embedded native clients and
automated PKI delivers the best of clientless remote access, robust
connectivity, immense scalability with the ultimate in ease of management – at
a fraction of the effort and cost of a typical VPN. SecurIX;
immediately lowers IT costs and powers productivity by leveraging existing
information applications and resources.
Q: What makes SecurIX a compelling product?
A: SecurIX delivers more
than just remote access. It is a platform that provides secure connectivity
upon which applications, resources or networks can be integrated. For example,
SecurIX is designed to be able to access multiple gateways at the same time, so
you could be accessing your internal LAN as well as a business partner's LAN at
the same time. When you connect to a gateway, SecurIX is able to send down a
centrally managed desktop that includes all the client server applications and
files shares a user has access to. The desktop feature creates new
possibilities for remote resource collaboration.
Q: What is the SecurIX value proposition for an enterprise?
A: SecurIX has a dramatically lower Total Cost
of Ownership (TCO) when compared with VPN + PKI solutions. SecurIX
cuts costs on several fronts from administration and deployment to security
management and scalability.
SecurIX:
-
Is a software solution that runs on standard Pentium-class hardware.
-
Integrates with existing PDC access lists for reduced administrative overhead
(no dedicated access lists is required.
-
Utilizes the Microsoft Certificate Authority (included with Windows 2000
Server), eliminating costs associated with a third party PKI.
-
Provides transparent management of the entire X.509 certificate lifecycle
through the SecurIX ClickView
central administration tools. No security management expertise is required.
-
Dynamically configures the client software and provides an online self-serve
distribution service, which cuts down on manual configuration, physically
distribution and help desk costs.
-
Client software integrates within Windows Explorer, so no user training is
required.
-
Easily scales without complicated and expensive load-balancing requirements.
Q: How easy is it to install SecurIX?
A: The SecurIX installation
automatically sets up three components: the SecurIX Gateway
server, ClickView(central administration tools) and the client
software distribution service, which typically takes less than one hour. The SecurIX
client software can be downloaded and installed by the user in about two
minutes.
Q: What is ClickView?
A: ClickView is a powerful Web-based
administration tool that is included with SecurIX.
It enables the systems administrator to manage any number of SecurIX gateways,
group profiles, the client software distribution service, the PKI/PKE
certificate management, and displays active clients with the ability to
disconnect anyone on demand. It also provides a variety of customized reports
on all network, session and peer activities.
Q: Do you have to buy additional Certificate Authority software?
A: No, SecurIX uses the
onboard Microsoft Certificate Server software that is included with Windows
2000 Server.
Q: Is SecurIX prone to performance bottlenecks (such as with a traditional
VPN)?
A: The SecurIX gateway is only responsible for
brokering user authentication, and then drops out of the connection. The
gateway is not tasked with proving encryption services like a VPN appliance.
Q: VPNs often have problems going through NATs or Proxy devices. What about
SecurIX?
A: SecurIX works at the
application level to establish Trusted Connectivity so it does not encounter
the types of problems that a VPN does (VPNs work at the OSI transport layer).
Q: What operating systems are supported for the client (i.e. remote user)
systems?
A: SecurIX client software
supports Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, Windows NT 4 (with the latest service pack
updates), Windows 2000 (with the latest service pack updates), and Windows XP
Professional.
Q: What are the system requirements for a SecurIX Gateway?
A: A SecurIX Gateway requires a minimum
500 MHz Intel Pentium III with 256MB RAM and 20MB free disk space. Windows 2000
Server or Advanced Server (the latest service pack updates) and access to a
TCP/IP network are also necessary. In order to authenticate users you must also
set up the Certificate Authority Server software, and have access to email to
automatically distribute the client component to users.
Q: Where can I get SecurIX?
A: SecurIX is available
from CLICK-Into Inc. or through an authorized reseller.
